Description

Disturbers, Observers and Team Players: Negotiating power and hierarchy in clinical learning environments

Join the Educational Development Unit for a Perspectives in Education lecture by Dr Keyna Bracken of McMaster University, followed by wine reception.

Medical school education especially the clinical phase is increasingly recognized as the seed where for too many trainees emotional exhaustion and dissatisfaction take root. The clinical learning environment rather than fostering resiliency and empathy appears to do the opposite. In order to promote student wellness from a curricular and institutional perspective, we need to better understand the clinical learning environment from the medical student perspective as they navigate through hidden curriculum and learn to adapt to varying hierarchical structures.

Dr Keyna Bracken
